Posted on January 29, 2020February 15, 2020

Violin and bow care? Arco: Arco means with the bow and often appears in music after pizz. (pizzicato or plucked) passages of music. Accelerando – Accelerando can be abbreviated Accel. and means to Accelerate or speed up gradually.; Diminuendo: A Diminuendo in sheet music can be abbreviated “dim.” It can also be called a decrescendo (abbreviated decresc. or decr.) This string music terms mean to get softer little by little. This is the opposite of a Crescendo.

Violin: The violin or “fiddle” is a string instrument which is played with a bow. It is the smallest member of the string family of orchestra instruments. The violin has 4 strings. The names of the strings are E, A, D and G. The violin is very similar to the viola, but the violin has plays higher pitches. The violin comes in fractional sizes 1/64 to 3/4 and of course the 4/4 size violin.

Violin parts : Chinrest – The violin chinrest is actually a misnomer because when holding the violin your JAW actually sits in this part of the violin. Violin chinrests are usually ebony but also come in many different types. Hairs – Never ever touch the hairs on the bow. Even if your fingers are clean there are natural oils in our skin that will soil the bow hairs and prevent the bow from playing. The hairs are made of horse hairs (no, the horse is not harmed, simply gets a hair cut)

Find out things you are doing well and get suggestions for improvement. Also, ask questions and clear up any confusion. Get feedback between lessons, keeping your practice on track. **Please allow 24 hours for Miss Laura to respond to an audio file submission. And, If you submit a file sooner than 24 hours before your next scheduled lesson, Miss Laura may provide feedback during the lesson instead of via email.

I don’t just teach online violin lessons, I go beyond with lesson plans that include so much more. I provide online lesson portals, audio practice aids and audio practice submissions with feedback too. These are on top of the regular online violin lesson. That means, the lesson isn’t over after the online zoom lesson. Each lesson plan encourages the most progress per week. This learning environment is the most effective with teacher support that continues all week. See even more info at Online Violin Lessons.
